siderophore from Mycobacterium smegmatis
The extracellular siderophore from Mycobacterium smegmatis, exochelin MS, was isolated from iron-deficiently grown cultures and purified to > 98 % by a combination of ion-exchange chromatography and h.p.l.c. The material is unextractable into organic solvents, is basic (pI = 9.3-9.5), has a Amax. at 420 nm and a probable K. for Fe3+ of between 1025 and 1030. Its structure has been determined by...
متن کاملAmylooligosaccharides from Mycobacterium smegmatis.
In early stationary phase of growth, Mycobacterium smegmatis cultures accumulate amylooligosaccharides (alpha 1 leads to 4-glucooligosaccharides) up to the undecasaccharide. Although M. smegmatis also makes an acylated polymethylpolysaccharide that is predominantly and alpha 1 leads to 4-glucan, we conclude that these oligosaccharides are precursors of glycogen rather than lopopolysaccharide.
متن کاملMICROBIAL TRANSFORMATION OF CHOLESTEROL BY MYCOBACTERIUM SMEGMATIS
Mycobacterium smegmatis PTCC 1307 (CIP 73.26) was used as a microbial agent to produce androsta-1,4-diene-3,17-dione (ADD) and androst-4-ene-3,17-dione, two useful precursors in the synthesis of steroid drugs. The side chain of cholesterol, as the substrate, was selectively cleaved in the presence of five enzyme inhibitors. An intermediate structure with intact side chain, cholest-4-ene-3-one, ...
متن کاملIncreased intracellular survival of Mycobacterium smegmatis containing the Mycobacterium leprae thioredoxin-thioredoxin reductase gene.
The thioredoxin (Trx) system of Mycobacterium leprae is expressed as a single hybrid protein containing thioredoxin reductase (TR) at its N terminus and Trx at its C terminus. This hybrid Trx system is unique to M. leprae, since in all other organisms studied to date, including other mycobacteria, both TR and Trx are expressed as two separate proteins. Because Trx has been shown to scavenge rea...
متن کاملDNA topoisomerase I from Mycobacterium smegmatis.
DNA topoisomerase I has been purified from Mycobacterium smegmatis to near homogeneity using different column chromatographic techniques. The enzyme activity relaxes form I DNA into form IV DNA, requiring Mg2+, but not ATP or any other cofactors for its activity. Several properties of the enzyme were found to be similar to that of the prototype enzyme, Escherichia coli topoisomerase I.
